A fleet of pot-fishing vessels

Béganton is the leading French operator of pot-fishing vessels. Located close to landing ports from Southern to Northern Brittany, our sites are positioned in the heart of France’s leading artisanal fishing region, offering unmatched crustacean diversity.

Our fleet of three pot vessels, certified as responsible fisheries, ensures selective fishing and guarantees sustainable practices to protect marine ecosystems and manage resources responsibly.
We also work closely with Ifremer Brest to study the  catch  data from our vessels and contribute to a better understanding of marine species.

The live holding tanks

As soon as our boats land, brown crab, spider crab, lobster, and crawfish are transferred to our live holding tanks under conditions that replicate their natural habitat, thanks to an open-circuit system. This ensures exceptional product quality.
We rely on over 40 years of experience and continuous technological monitoring to constantly improve our working methods and live crustacean storage systems.  

Our storage capacity of 200 tons of live crustaceans on the Breton coast allows us to:

  • Grade the products and offer various sizes to meet client needs,
  • Ensure precise traceability,
  • Guarantee consistent supply regardless of tidal coefficients

Additionally, our sourcing across Europe, depending on stock movements and fishing efforts, helps us supplement our tanks and secure product availability for our clients.

Innovation in our holding tanks

In 2019, Mericq invested in and innovated at Lorient by building unique live tanks in Europe, reducing physical strain for workers and ensuring full product traceability for our clients.

Crustaceans are sorted, graded, and prepared by hand to meet custom needs and ensure optimal product quality.

Traditional cooking expertise

Cooking facilities located in Loctudy and Roscoff allow us to offer a unique range of cooked crustaceans.  A traditional cooking method using seawater preserves the original taste of the product.  Cooling techniques, designed by our R&D teams, help improve product longevity and firmness.

Live-tank truck fleet

Thanks to our fleet of live-tank trucks, we also import crustaceans from Northern Europe and export to clients in Spain, Portugal, and Italy.
